A lot of people under estimate the importance of their hands. You can be clean shaven, perfect hair and dressed to perfection, but if you have long dirty nails it all goes out the window. As soon as you reach out for a hand shake or get your paws on a lady friend, game over…
I understand a lot of men out there don’t feel comfortable sitting in a nail salon, but trust me, it’s quite common and women find it sexy, ladies love a well groomed, confident man. However, if you really don’t see yourself in a salon or simply want to save yourself a few bucks, all is not lost, with the right tools you can take care of your mitts at home.

First of all get all your tools ready. You will need a bowl of warm water, nail clippers, nail file, nail scissors, cuticle pusher (also called a hoof stick), nail buffer, cuticle cream/oil and a good quality hand cream. A good hand made manicure kit is a great investment, it’ll last forever and someday you could even pass it down to one of your children.

OK, start by using the back of your cuticle pusher to clean under your nails, then cut your nails following the contor of your finger, this should leave your nails rounded and already looking a lot better. (As a rule, try to leave just a little bit of nail when cutting, approx 1mm and never ever bite your nails.) Next take your nail file and file your nails to smooth the edge and remove any sharp points, try to only file your nails in one direction rather than back and forth like a saw. Using the nail buffer, give your nails an even surface and a slight shine. (The nail buffer is great for getting rid of cracks, bumps and lines that have grown into your nail, keep doing this and you’ll notice your nails start to grow out better.) Now rub your cuticles with cuticle cream/oil and place your fingers in the bowl of warm water, let them soak for roughly 5 to 6 minutes allowing the cuticles to soften, then take your cuticle pusher and gently push back the cuticle on each finger, at this point if you see any bits of skin sticking out from around your nail, trim it off using your nail scissors. Once you finish, wash your hands thoroughly with soap, dry them well and apply your hand cream, giving your palms and fingers a gentle massage. You should be left with soft hands and great looking nails.

Don’t forget, it is called a MANicure!
